Can someone explain why the modern understanding of tongues didn’t come into practice until the 1900’s?… so for 1900 years prior, tongues were universally understood… then some people decided to make up their own interpretation that is unfortunately very misguided. Can someone who thinks tongues is those incoherent noises explain this to me? Where was this understanding of tongues prior to 1901? My perspective… someone in Kansas yearned for the gift so bad that they just let their emotions overwhelm them to believe they spoke in tongues… told a few other people they were special, those people got envious, heard how that person thought they spoke tongues and mimicked it… and the rest of the story goes on… 😔 And if we want to go into scripture, (paraphrased) Paul blatantly says he can speak many tongues but would rather speak a few words that those of the church could understand, for everything is to be for edification of the church… also talks about those speaking in tongues and just speaking out into the air (accomplishing nothing)… if it isn’t for the edification/teaching for the church, it is not relevant… tongues is meant for transmission of the Holy Gospel from one to another where the language is not common amongst the populace. Can it still exist today, sure, God can do anything, but it isn’t how Pentecostals/charismatics interpret it. I respect the zeal and spirituality of the denomination, it’s just misguided unfortunately.

Why does paul tell timothy to drink and why does he also say that what goes into your mouth does not defile you… I believe it depends on your heart… there was a time I was battling with weed and I quit for about a year, and the next time I smoked I remember praying and telling God I love him and thanked him for this beautiful experience and I remember feeling like its only wrong if its an idol and runs your life.. there is some kind of spiritual connection when used right, not sure if its beginning of samuel or the end of judges but the person thought the priest was drunk. It was a common practice to be drunk and worship at that time.. I am not saying you should go to church drunk, but I am arguing that there is some kind of spiritual connection there and done in the RIGHT PLACE and RIGHT TIME, it can be extremely beneficial… goes with any psychedelics.. I dont do shrooms to party, when I take shrooms I begin to think how im a horrible grandson and I need to see my grandma more. Or how I can be a better mentor for my brother or if life actually matters and is there purpose, or is it all arbitrary and there really is no purpose. I feel connected with God and everyone as I come to think logically and how God made us with purpose and we need to love each other just as we love God, it is a profound experience I tell you… God has saved me from drugs and that is my testimony as I started to lose friends to them. I absolutely love when I take breaks from everything. I dont just take breaks from weed but I also take breaks from games I play all the time, or a specific tv shows that is running my life. That tv show you sneak off to watch or that video game you sneak off to play, you leaving your boys early to hangout with a girl you really like.. is all addictive behavior that you need to fix.. why just stop with weed when you can fast on all kinds of things that will enhance your relationship with God?

Ive literally been battling this same question but when i smoke im usually either in study in the bible or watching christian videos and stuff so its been hard to answer that personally
